Notes & source

  • Flexible unit: keep the 2:1 ratio and scale between 900×450 and 1800×900 density-independent pixels (dp)
  • Minimum width and height are in dp, which equal pixels at 1x density
  • Build at 2x for sharp screens
  • Static image size 1800×900 dp
  • Initial load up to 250 kB, subload up to 500 kB
  • Max file size is the initial-load k-weight: IAB applies the initial load limit to static image ads and backup images
  • Weights are gzipped and count every file the ad requests before the page load event
  • Subload starts after it, and user-initiated loads are unlimited
  • At most 10 file requests during initial load
  • Exempt shared libraries add up to 50 kB
  • Ads stay muted unless the user starts audio, and must be clearly distinguishable from content (a border is the usual way)
  • On 3G or slower connections IAB asks for file weights 30% below these limits
